🎥 REMINDER: ✨ 🎬 The Boyne Theater FUTURE is depending on YOU: SHARE your enthusiasm, vision and passion at the Boyne City Main Street meeting tomorrow, Thursday, September 3rd.

Our cash-at-closing, no-contingencies, no inspection offer is comprehensive, strategic and deeply rooted in research. Most importantly, it puts community, economic vitality and historic preservation FIRST! 🏛️✨ Data shows that non-profit theaters are highly viable because they are supported by grants, donations and mission-driven engagement—rather than relying purely on ticket sales to survive.

📣 SPEAK OUT!!! Share your vision, memories and passion for the theater during the Citizen’s Comment period at the beginning of the meeting (5-minute limit).

📽 We hope to see fellow lovers of community, theater enthusiasts, and those who believe the Boyne Theater should be preserved as a non-profit, maintained as a community-owned public asset, and protected as a historically significant gem—with long-term sustainability at the forefront!!! 💕

📣Theater Progress UPDATE: 🎥 Thanks to all who continue to follow, support and encourage the effort to preserve the Boyne Theater. We know that important community decisions take thoughtful consideration, and we remain committed! 📽

Here’s THE LATEST:

🎯 At the 8/17 Boyne City Main Street Special Meeting, the Main Street Board determined that the motion approved at its 8/6 meeting was “ambiguous” and the Board established revised next steps.

🎯 In response to a new approved motion, Boyne Community Theater submitted an updated RFP proposal on 8/21 that clearly identifies and highlights responses to four Main Street RFP requests.

🎯 The matter is on the agenda for the regular 9/3 Main Street meeting for further consideration and decision.

For CONTEXT, here’s how we got here:

✔ In June 2020, Boyne Theater was acquired by Boyne City Main Street from Richard Bergmann using Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds. TIF is a way for a government entity to fund improvements in a defined area by using the future increase in property tax revenue generated by rising property values. Business and residential property owners DO NOT PAY additional tax for TIF. TIF works by setting a baseline for property tax revenue in an area. As the area improves and property values increase, the increased tax revenue is used to help pay for projects such as roads, infrastructure or redevelopment.

✔ Boyne City Main Street published a RFP to sell the Boyne Theater on 5/7/26 with proposals due 7/15.

✔ Boyne Community Theater submitted its proposal on 7/15.

✔ At Main Street’s 8/6 meeting, the Board approved the following motion: “If a proposal comes in, at that time, when we know we have something to look at, review and vote on publicly, I would like to try to set a Special Meeting to find a date where we can all have a quorum and vote on the sale of the theater.”

✔ Following that meeting, Boyne Community Theater met, revised its proposal and submitted a revised offer—including purchase price—the afternoon of 8/6.

✔ Main Street Director Ingrid Day acknowledged receipt of the offer that same day.

✔ The 8/17 Main Street Special Meeting addressed the 8/6 motion, revising next steps, approving a motion to extend the proposal deadline to 9/1.

✔ A new RFP was published by Main Street on 8/18.

✔ Our non-profit submitted a third proposal on 8/21 and received acknowledgement of receipt.

🎞 💕We appreciate the continued consideration given to the Boyne Theater’s future and remain encouraged that everyone is working toward the same GOAL: preserving the Boyne Theater as a theater. ❤️🎬

🎬🍿Theater Progress UPDATE: 📣We’re excited to learn that Boyne City Main Street has scheduled a Special Meeting to clarify the motion approved at its board meeting and to further discuss our proposal. Let’s keep the positive momentum going!

🎯 Public Boyne City Main Street Special Meeting
🎯 Monday, August 17, 9am
🎯 Boyne City Building, Commission Chambers

🎉 We are thrilled that the process is moving along—and even more pleased that Main Street continues to be aligned with preserving the Boyne Theater as a theater! "Everyone wants the same thing," Main Street Executive Director Ingrid Day is quoted in today’s Boyne Citizen article.

To recap for all those equally as excited, here’s the lowdown:

✔ Main Street published Request for Proposals on 5/7/26, due 7/15/26.

✔ Boyne Community Theater submitted its RFP within the deadline requirement on 7/15/26.

✔ Main Street Monthly Meeting, Thursday, 8/6/26 – formal motion proposed by Patti Gabos, second by Chris Christiansen, approved by majority, stated: “If a proposal comes in, at that time, when we know we have something to look at, review and vote on publicly, I would like to try to set a Special Meeting to find a date where we can all have a quorum and vote on the sale of the theater.”

✔ Boyne Community Theater met immediately following the Main Street meeting, revised the RFP submission, and submitted a revised offer including purchase price the afternoon of Thursday, 8/6/26.

✔ Main Street Director Ingrid Day acknowledged receipt of the required offer via email reply on Thursday, 8/6/26.

✔ Main Street scheduled a Special Meeting for Monday, 8/17/26, at 9am to clarify the motion made at the Board meeting.

🤞We are hopeful that the Boyne City Main Street board will keep the momentum going and either approve our revised proposal offer or provide a counteroffer/recommendation that will serve the benefit of our community for many, many years to come by restoring and reopening our historic landmark. 📽💕

🎥🍿We’re Making Progress! Our proposal was submitted within the requested deadline and was acknowledged by the Boyne City Main Street Board during today’s meeting (8/6/26).

🥰The community response was truly encouraging, with an enthusiastic turnout and a full Commissioner's galley, showing support and interest in the future of the Boyne Theater. 🎞

Following public comment and board discussion, the Main Street Board requested that we submit a firm financial offer. Immediately after today’s meeting, our board met and formally submitted that offer in response to the request from Boyne City Main Street.

We are now awaiting a response from Main Street regarding a date and time for a special meeting to discuss the proposal, answer questions, and—optimistically—move forward with acceptance.

💕✨Thank you to everyone who has shown their support, shared their passion, and continues to believe in the future of this historic community landmark! 🎬🌟
