Today, we’re honoring the spirit of by featuring four incredible filmmakers from our last workshop cohort. In an industry where women’s voices have often been sidelined, these creators are reclaiming the lens and building a new narrative for Nepal.
Watching them find their voice was the highlight of our year. This is what progress looks like. This is the future of film. ❤️

We went to Janakpur for a shoot as part of the Women Make Films project. The heat was relentless.. But even in that weather, we stepped out, determined to capture the story we had come for.
As soon as we arrived, I sensed something different, especially in the women we encountered. Janakpur, being a city, had its own pulse. People were busy, guarded, and often didn’t want their photos taken. But on the second day, everything changed when we visited Rampur. There, we were met with openness and warmth. Women came up to us, asked to be photographed, and shared their stories freely.
As a filmmaker, I felt deeply inspired. It’s always been about the connection for me really getting to know someone, understanding their story, and seeing them beyond the lens. That connection grounds me and reminds me why I do this work.
One of the most memorable moments was something we never expected. We had hired an auto, and the driver invited us to his home. We accepted, unsure of what to expect and were met with warm smiles from his family, the soft breeze of a fan, a spotless aagan, and a wholesome, home-cooked meal!
The journey to Dhanusha was heartwarming. We left hoping that we’d captured the true essence of the story and we can’t wait to share it with you all soon.

Right now, we’re in Jumla and nothing about this trip has gone as planned, in the best way possible. What started as a 10 days Women Make Film Workshop, has now evolved into something much more raw, unexpected, and deeply human.
The journey here wasn’t easy. It was long, bumpy, unpredictable but in the discomfort, something beautiful emerged. Towering mountains wrap around quiet villages, and life unfolds slowly, without rush. There’s a clarity here that’s hard to describe… like the air itself demands honesty.
What’s moved me most is the women of Jumla. Every day, they carry out tasks that would tire most of us, collecting water from far-off springs, working the fields from dawn to dusk, raising families, tending to animals, keeping everything moving. Their labor is constant, their strength quiet but immense.
We’ve been welcomed into homes, offered cups of tea, stories, and songs. Some of the most powerful moments have been unscripted — an old woman humming a tune while weaving, kids chasing each other down a dusty path, a rooster crowing just as the sun spills over the hills. These are the moments that shape the soul of this project — the ones you can’t plan for, only witness.
Jumla is challenging — physically, emotionally, and creatively. But it’s also grounding. It reminds me why stories matter. Real ones. Hard ones. Beautiful, complex ones.
We came here to shoot a film. And I already know I’ll carry this place with me, long after the camera stops rolling.

Exploring the power of sound to transform storytelling!

From subtle ambiance to powerful soundscapes, Dikesh Khadgi guided us through the magic of sound design. We dove deep into the nature of sound and learned how it can elevate our stories in ways words alone cannot. Grateful for this immersive experience that tuned our ears to a whole new world of possibilities.

Out in nature, we tuned in - learning how subtle ambience and intentional sound design breathe life into a narrative.
