This sunday it's time for our screening of 'Rebellion'! In April 2019, Extinction Rebelllion (XR) blocked some strategic traffic points in
London, where hundreds of nonviolent protesters are arrested. But this protest was succesfull because the government of Britain was the first one to declare the environmental issues an emergency.

Sunday Vincent Thepass will join us in our discussion after the film to talk more about the climate crisis from a political point of view. Thepass is a city councillor for GroenLinks (green left) party in The Hague. He focuses on, among other topics, the local energy transition, with a special focus on climate justice. Vincent thinks that local climate policies should empower the citizens of The Hague.

Next week we're back again! On the 13th of November we will screen 'Rebellion' in Filmhuis Den Haag.

‘Disruption, that’s the key thing,’ says charismatic Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Hallam. As an organic farmer, Hallam experienced the consequences of climate change when the increasingly irregular weather caused crop failures and layoffs. Within a year of its foundation in 2018, Extinction
Rebellion got the idea of a ‘climate emergency’ to the top of the worldwide political agenda. This film shows what happened on the inside of Extinction Rebellion while they fought to get the climate crisis in the spotlight.

We will have a discussion after the film and there will be an opportunity to ask question. Stay posted for more information!

On the 9th of October we will show the documentary Eternal Spring. The story is made into an animation by cartoonist Daxiong, himself a Falun Gong member. His breathtaking and thrilling animated scenes are interspersed with interviews with many of the main characters – that is: the ones who survived and managed to flee China.

The film was directed by Jason Loftus, who is an award winning filmmaker and was nominated four times for a Canadian Screen award. Eternal Spring has received the Top Audience Award at the Hot docs International Film Festival.

Movies that Matter on tour is back! On sunday the 9th of October we organise a screening of Eternal Spring: an animated documentary about a group of Falun Gong practitioners who managed to shortly take over Chinese state TV in 2002. Now, 20 years later, this film recalls the events through animation of eyewitness stories. It is a tale of determination to speak up for political and religious freedoms, no matter the cost.
