‘Othello’ is centered on the life and the love of a man who was an impassioned hero of his time. The play revolves around the life of an opulent and powerful man who though ‘dark-skinned and thick lipped’ commanded the respect and trust of the hundreds who worked with him in the army and those who were his dearest friends, and of course his beloved wife Desdemona. Othello was a highly esteemed ge

neral in the service of Venice. Nevertheless he was not above human foibles, and from time to time he was deeply susceptible like any other human being, to the emotions of jealousy and anger, which led ultimately to him turning reluctant murderer by unfortunate choice, and to his own death. Believed to have been written around 1603, ‘Othello’ is an adaptation of the Italian writer Cinthio's tale "Un Capitano Moro" (A Moorish Captain) ‘Othello’ showcases Othello the Moor as the central character; his lieutenant Cassio , his trusted ensign, Iago, and his beloved wife Desdemona. Othello’s theme ranges from the heights of Greek Tragedy to the mundane depths of human implosion and fragmentation.
