I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to design the music and sound for Barefoot Republic, produced by the School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur. Being part of a work that reflects such a powerful and painful chapter of our recent history has been both humbling and transformative.
The play, rooted in the stark reality that mass migration continues to shape human lives—from the 1947 India–Pakistan partition to the COVID-19 pandemic—brings to light the struggles of millions who were forced to walk in search of survival, dignity, and home. Contributing sonically to this narrative allowed me to engage closely with the emotional and psychological landscapes of displacement, resilience, and hope.
What makes this production truly special is its student-driven spirit—meticulously researched, thoughtfully devised, and executed with minimal infrastructure while embracing diverse theatrical forms such as immersive theatre, realism, and clowning. The dedication, creativity, and collective energy of the team were inspiring to witness and collaborate with.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team, mentors, and performers for trusting me with the soundscape of this important work. It was an honour to be a part of a production that not only tells a story but also asks us to reflect, remember, and respond.
With gratitude...
