On Thursday 1 October at 7pm, the Pop Up Cinema managed by SluaghHall returns to The Kilmorna Collection with This Is Spinal Tap.

This Sunday, we are installing a new exhibition at TKC.

We are not saying what it is yet.

The works of art being installed will still be in the room on Thursday night.

The sensible thing would probably be to work around them and carry on as though they had nothing whatsoever to do with the film.

We are not doing that.

Instead, they are going to become part of the screening experience.

This is the part I have been told not to do.

More than once, if I was to be honest.

Spaces are severely limited, so if you are planning to come, booking in advance would be wise, actually essential.

No place on earth quite like Ballybunion

There aren't many places in Ireland where castle ruins, towering cliffs and a sandy beach come together quite like this 😎

Welcome to Ballybunion in County Kerry 🇮🇪

Perched above the sand, Ballybunion Castle was built by the Fitzmaurice family in the early 1500s on the site of an even older promontory fort.

The castle was destroyed in 1582, but its ruins still stand high above Ballybunion's famous Ladies and Men's beaches today 🏰

Kerry's newest 117km Camino follows the old "Butter Road" from Kelly's Six Crosses outside of through the backroads of Rathea, Lyreacrompane, Castleisland, Scartaglen, Tureencahill, Rathmore, Millstreet, Kerrypike and finishing at the in Cork City. 12 TY students from Millstreet CS have completed the Camino raising over €22,000 for their charities. Donations still being accepted online at the Butter Road Camino iDonate fundraiser at the QR code below.

Wim Wenders, the Oscar-nominated German filmmaker probably best known for his 1984 iconic road-trip drama Paris, Texas, is also at the helm for one of the most amazing music documentaries ever made, Beuna Vista Social Club.

Set primarily in and around the backstreets of Havana in the late 1990s, a forgotten group of elderly Cuban musicians are brought together by Ry Cooder to record a CD. With stunning cinematography of Havana's luminous streets, iconic soundtracks and some amazing individual performances, Beuna Vista Social Club is the perfect 🎬 to kick-start our series of films at The Kilmorna Collection next Thursday evening at 7.30pm. On Thursday 3 September, the shelves stay where they are, the lights go down and the first picture goes up.

BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB.

Wim Wenders’ film is funny, moving and bursting with music. It travels from Havana to Carnegie Hall with a group of extraordinary musicians who found a worldwide audience at an age when most careers are supposed to be over.

This is a film to be seen properly.

On a big screen.
With the sound up.
And other people in the room.

THE PICTURES ARE COMING TO CHURCH STREET.

A cinema and a record shop have been talking.

There was probably only one way that was going to end.

From September, SluaghHall and The Kilmorna Collection are coming together for a series of films at TKC.

Not just any films.

Films about music.
Films about musicians.
Films about records, scenes, movements and the people who became slightly obsessed with them.

In other words, films we will be arguing about.

It starts on Thursday, 3 September.

We have chosen the first film.

We think it’s a rather good place to begin.

We’ll tell you what it is shortly.

Works update: New look prior to aluminium shutters being fitted, ESB Networks ducting installed for 3 phase electricity + new aluminium 'full swing' doors with matching windows arrived from Poland last week. We're also delighted to be working on a collab with another enterprising individual in Listowel bringing some great movies to town prior to opening Sluagh Hall Family Entertainment & Leisure Centre. More on that next month. Excitement all round 🙌 😄
