Abbey Audio

Abbey Audio High quality PA systems for your event or conference, festival, live gig, meeting, product launch, theatre show. Need a larger system?

I started playing bass guitar in local bands at 15 back in 1972 and enjoyed doing this for around 6 years. There were various lineups with these 3 bands: Earth, Trader & Alaska and we had some fun times and great gigs. At 21 years old I knew I wasn't going to make it as a musician so turned my attention to PA Systems. Working with a guy called Richard we set up System 1 PA Hire and purchased an Ea

stmill horn loaded system. Quite powerful for its size but the large 'trap' shaped bass bins were heavy and awkward to move, especially up and down stairs :( Later I began using bass speakers based on Court Acoustics designs plus SSE mids. This system worked very well - local reggae bands such as Pressure Shocks and The Naturalites loved the high quality sound that could be achieved. This system was also used for many gigs for bands such as The Alarm, Meteors, The Higsons, King, The Only Ones, Prince Far I, B Movie etc. Moving on about 35 years (!) I now have an Inspired Audio system as my main or 'Alpha Rig'. This can be seen in the home page picture of Rusty Shackle. In addition I have a Martin Audio system as my 'Beta Rig' - ideal for a smaller stage in a local pub/hall. I have a wide range of other active and passive systems and can provide audio solutions for most requirements for an event with up to about 700 people. I have associates who can help.

Supplied a small PA system and projector screen to the Indietracks Festival, Derbyshire for a party the other night. A film by Jeanie Finlay showing the background, history of the Midland Railway and this festival, now in it's 10th year, was shown to invited guests. The film was shown again over the weekend to the festival goers.

A very busy day at Blidfest 2016 on Saturday 16th July held at The Bird in Hand pub, Blidworth, Notts. Supplied one of my PA systems for this event which was to raise money for the Notts & Lincs Air Ambulance Service. Good attendance so I hope the funds will benefit accordingly.
A broad range of music styles from solo folk singers to a duo singing opera ('Time to say goodbye' was especially good) to a 6 piece Irish/Folk band, The Ragged Rascals. Great performances also from The Storm Trees, Acoustica and Fade to Black.

Need 1 microphone or several? For vocals? A Shure SM58 perhaps? Audix OM7? Sennheiser e945? AKG D5 or D7?

For drums? DP7 Set of Audix? AKG C451B - a pair of these for overheads?

We have a very broad range of microphones which includes many 'industry standards' plus some specials e.g. for harmonica
Range of Beyer and K & M stands available to suit.

Radio mics also available e.g. Sennheiser EW100 G3 Channel 38 & Channel 70, Line 6 2.4GHz digital wireless - handheld, lavalier & headsets.

BSS active & ART active and passive DI boxes available.

Need some speakers? We can offer active/powered or passive.
Active speakers are available in pairs: 1 x 10 + horn, 1 x 12 + horn, 1 x 15 + horn, 1 x 15" bass, 1 x 18" bass
Passive speakers (in pairs of course) are Martin Audio F10+, Martin Audio F12+, 1 x 15" & S18+ reflex bass
Our Inspired Audio system (see the picture above when Rusty Shackle were playing through it) is compact and offers great dynamic range and high quality.

Wedge monitors available include Logic Systems LM12 & LM15 (both sizes use coaxial drivers) & Wharfedale 12" + horn.

Analogue mixers available include Soundcraft M4, M8 & M12, EFX8 & EFX 12, FX16ii, GB2 16ch, LX7ii 24ch & 32ch.

Digital mixers include 2 x Allen & Heath R72 iLive & 1 x T112 iLive.
We have 3 sizes of MixRacks to match these 'surfaces': 1 x 16ch, 1 x 32ch (Dante card fitted in this one) & 1 x 48ch. All come with the latest firmware installed plus CAT5 Reels and links.
If space in a venue is really tight, especially for FOH, it's perfectly feasible to operate a system using a Mixrack only using a higher spec. wireless router plus Apple iPad and iLive Editor installed on it.
We use a 5Ghz connection as it's much more reliable than 2.4Ghz in venues where there may be large numbers of mobile phones trying to access this part of the wireless spectrum.

Contact us for further information to discuss how we could help you by supplying equipment for: live music, theatre shows, meetings, product launches, small festivals.

Went to see Robyn Johnson, a talented guitarist/singer, perform at The Old KIngs Head in Belper on Friday evening 18th Sept.
She writes her own songs, does a couple of covers too and overall is really entertaining. Look out for her gigs!

Our Story

I started playing bass guitar in local bands at 15 back in 1972 and enjoyed doing this for around 6 years. There were various lineups with these 3 bands: Earth, Trader & Alaska and we had some fun times and great gigs. At 21 years old I knew I wasn't going to make it as a musician, so turned my attention to PA Systems. Working with a guy called Richard we set up System 1 PA Hire and purchased an Eastmill horn loaded system. Quite powerful for its size but the large 'trap' shaped bass bins were heavy and awkward to move, especially up and down stairs :( Later I began using 2 x 15” bass speakers based on Court Acoustics ‘W bin’ designs plus SSE 2 x 12” mids and Vitavox HF. This system worked very well - local reggae bands such as Pressure Shocks and The Naturalites loved the high quality sound that could be achieved. The same system was also used for many gigs for bands such as Soft Cell, The Alarm, Meteors, The Higsons, King, The Only Ones, Prince Far I, B Movie etc. Moving on about 35 years (!) I now have an Inspired Audio system as my main or 'Alpha Rig'. This can be seen in the home page picture of Rusty Shackle playing at the Towersey Festival. The band commented afterwards that it was the best sound they’d had and this included when they had also played a larger stage at the same festival with a Soundcraft Vi6 and D & B speakers!

In addition I have a Martin Audio system as my 'Beta Rig' - ideal for a smaller stage in a local pub/hall. I have a wide range of both digital and analogue mixers by Allen & Heath and Soundcraft plus active and passive speaker systems and can provide audio solutions for most requirements for an event with up to about 700 people. Need a larger system? I have associates who can help with a larger Inspired Audio rig or, a Turbosound rig.
