🎬 Why did we choose September 5th?

Our next film is a bit of a change of gear after our recent run of Little Miss Sunshine, The Upside and The Devil Wears Prada.

September 5th is based on a true story — an event that happened within the lifetime of most of us and was all over the news at the time.

But watching it now also makes you realise just how much the way we receive news has changed. Today, something happens anywhere in the world and within seconds it can be on our phones. Back then, even a major international event could unfold while people were still largely dependent on television and radio to find out what was happening.

In fact, our own bar manager was actually there at the time — and knew nothing about what was happening.

That's one of the things that attracted us to the film. It's not just a true story; it's also a fascinating reminder of how different the world was, not all that long ago.

And, after three light hearted films, we thought it was time for something completely different.

🎬 NEXT UP AT LILLEY COMMUNITY CINEMA

After the glamour, fashion and fun of The Devil Wears Prada 2, we're taking a very different turn…

SEPTEMBER 5 — Friday 30th October

Do you remember where you were when you first heard about the Munich Olympics hostage crisis in 1972?

September 5 takes us behind the scenes of that extraordinary day — not through the eyes of the athletes or the terrorists, but through those of the journalists who suddenly found themselves broadcasting a live global crisis to millions of people.

It's tense, gripping and remarkably immediate — and because so much of the story unfolds in real time, you feel as though you're right there in the newsroom as events develop.

And the critics and audiences clearly agree:

Based on a true story and featuring a terrific cast, September 5 is the kind of film that gives you plenty to talk about afterwards.

Before we meet them again, let’s take a look back at the film that started it all.

From Miranda Priestly’s legendary entrance, to Andy’s transformation, Nigel’s fashion lessons and that cerulean blue speech, The Devil Wears Prada gave us some of the most memorable characters, quotes and fashion moments in modern cinema.

And now… the story continues.
