Lilley Community Cinema Club A non-profit volunteer led cinema club screening 12 films per year - bringing cinema to the community

10/05/2026

Dear members,

We’re looking for a volunteer to take charge of the bar at our Community Cinema club.

The role would suit someone who enjoys the social side of the club and fancies putting their own stamp on our drinks and snacks offer.

You would:

- Choose and source drinks and snacks
- Set sensible prices
- Run the bar on film nights
- Help with set up and clearing away

There’s plenty of freedom to try ideas and keep things fun, whether that’s better wines, posher crisps, themed drinks, or just making the bar feel a welcoming part of the evening.

It’s not a huge operation and existing committee members are on hand to help you — we show 12 films a year with audiences typically around 40 people — but the bar is an important part of the atmosphere and helps support the club financially.

You don’t need previous bar experience, just reliability, common sense, and a willingness to get involved.

If you’re interested, or would like a chat about what’s involved, please message me.

After the very familiar and very popular film The Choral, we’re taking a slightly different path this coming month—but one we think is well worth the journey. Our May film, Rental Family offers a simple, intriguing idea: what if you could hire someone to step into your life as a relative? A father for a day, a daughter for a visit, a companion when you need one most. Set in modern-day Japan, the film follows a company that provides these “stand-in” family members, and the lives they quietly touch.

While the setting may be new, the themes couldn’t be more familiar. Loneliness, connection, belonging—and the small, often unexpected ways people show up for one another. If you enjoyed the emotional heart of The Choral, you’ll find that same warmth here, just told in a different way.

This is a gentle, thoughtful film with moments of humour and real tenderness. The kind of story that sparks conversation on the way home—and lingers long after. Sometimes the most rewarding films are the ones we might not usually choose. This could be one of them.

Join us and discover something a little different.

A reminder that our next screening is The Choral — a warm, uplifting film celebrating the power of music, community, and unexpected connections.

Set against a backdrop of personal challenges and shared ambition, The Choral brings together a group of ordinary people united by a love of singing. As their journey unfolds, the film strikes a perfect balance between humour and heartfelt emotion, building to a genuinely moving and life-affirming conclusion.

To make the evening even more special, we will not be putting away the chairs until 15 minutes after the film finishes so that you can finish your drinks and enjoy a chat with fellow members before you set off for home.

This is the perfect opportunity to unwind at the end of the week and enjoy a shared experience together.

We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable and uplifting night.
