From the mid-1960s Hollywood begun to produce films that were out of step with the times, left behind by the fast cultural chages. This eclectic assortment of old-style hits and obsolete mammoths constitutes the (sometimes flawed) group of masterpieces that we love and celebrate here. In the 1960s the Hollywood majors begun to lose their power and had to sell off their backlots but before selling
out or becoming modern-day corporates - fooled by a handful of mega hits - they soldiered on producing a large number of old-style family entertainements, most of which bombed at the box office. At the same time, the censorship code relented and films became more violent and sexually explicit. European cinema and art house movies cast their shadow on American cinema, influencing filmmakers and actors alike. Younger generations of film makers were more preoccupied with controversial themes than ever before. The change in society sneaked into Hollywood and this begun to alter the nature of the movies. In other words, cinema stopped creating Magic and, bit by bit, audiences lost their ability to dream and demanded "realism". However - from roughly 1966 to the present day - alongside the aforementioned flops, the survivng studios and (eventually) some inspired filmamakers still made movies as if the "good old days" had never ended! These also are "Old-Fashioned Hollywood! :-)
