The last one of these now England are out. The Fix (1997) directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Steve Coogan, Jason Isaacs and Ricky Tomlinson.

Our next screening at the Doncaster Little Theatre will be Almost Famous on Thursday 17th September.

I always find Top 5 lists almost impossible, but this one felt even harder. Sam Neill had one of those careers where he could turn up in a blockbuster, an arthouse drama or a cult horror film and completely own the screen.

With the news of his passing, I thought it was a good excuse to revisit five of my favourite performances.

My Top 5:

🦕 Jurassic Park: The performance that made Alan Grant one of cinema's greatest heroes.

🎹 The Piano: A beautifully understated performance in one of the best films of the '90s.

😱 In the Mouth of Madness: A hugely underrated John Carpenter film, and one of Neill's boldest performances.

🌊 Dead Calm: This one has a bit of nostalgia for me. My dad had it on VHS, so it's a film I've always associated with Sam Neill.

🚢 The Hunt for Red October: A smaller role, but a brilliant performance in an all-time great thriller.

I'd love to know what would make your Top 5. There are plenty of great performances that just missed out.
