gular showings of recent films and broadcasts from The National Theatre. As a multipurpose building it is also used for lectures, meetings, and hosting events. We even have a licensed bar! All in one building in walking distance from Haslemere Train Station. Our History:

The Hall was made possible by a local benefactor by the name of Barclay Lewis Day, who was living in Haslemere back in 1912. He decided to build a Hall with his own money, and he invited well known architects to submit their plans in a competition for the best design. The competition was judged by a prominent member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and the winning design was by Annesley Brownrigg F.R.I.B.A. Building work started in 1912 and the Hall was officially opened in 1914. The opening coincided with the outbreak of World War 1 and for the first four years of its life the Hall was requisitioned by the War Office and used as a drill hall for the troops. At the end of the war in 1918 Barclay Lewis Day announced that he was presenting the Hall “to the people of Haslemere”, as a gift. A plaque at the base of the staircase commemorates this most generous gift. Ever since then the Hall has been run completely independently by a Board Of Trustees set up originally by the then Ministry of Education. The Trustees are representative of the Civil, Religious, and Educational life of the town and its various performing Societies. The Hall receives no endowments or State Grants. Until recently its only source of income came from lettings to those who want to use the Hall and from individual “Friends of Haslemere Hall”. There is a small Annual Grant from the Local Authority but in recent years this been cut back. A building that is approaching 100 years of age is constantly requiring attention in the form of repairs and renewals. Improvements and modernisation work are undertaken as funds permit. To this end the “Friends of Haslemere Hall” has been set up to which all those who wish to contribute as subscribers, may do so. The Trustees are always mindful of their responsibility and obligation to maintain the Hall, and of their debt to Barclay Day who provided such a valuable amenity for the future generations of Haslemere citizens.

Did you know that Haslemere Hall has been at the heart of our town for more than 100 years?

Built in 1913 by local benefactor Barclay Lewis Day and designed in the beautiful Arts & Crafts style by architect Annesley Brownrigg, the Hall was created as a space for community, culture and bringing people together, and over a century later, it’s still doing exactly that!

From silent films to live music, theatre productions, comedy nights, cinema screenings, lectures and community events, generations of Haslemere audiences have laughed, applauded, learnt and gathered together under the same iconic copper roof.

Today, Haslemere Hall is still a proudly independent arts venue and registered charity, which is a rather rare and special thing in a world of chain cinemas and disappearing venues.

Next time you visit, remember: you’re not just coming to see a show… you’re helping to keep this beautiful building alive - and you’re part of the Hall’s story too 🤍

Coming to the Hall on Friday 12th June is Rose of Nevada - a critically acclaimed film by Mark Jenkin, BAFTA award winning director of Bait and Enys Men.

When a fishing boat, the Rose of Nevada, lost with all hands 30 years ago, mysteriously reappears in the old harbour of a forgotten Cornish village, for those who remember, it’s surely a sign. The boat must go out to sea again and maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn. Young father Nick and enigmatic newcomer Liam join Captain Murray and they head to sea. But when they return something is amiss - they’ve slipped back in time and the villagers greet them as if they are the original crew.

Book your tickets to see this eerily beautiful Cornish time-loop drama via the link in our bio - or pop into the box office to see us in person (opening hours Monday-Friday, 9:00AM-1:00PM).

Coming to the big screen for two nights - on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th June @ 7:30PM - is the much requested film The Christophers, starring Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel.

A mainstay of the London art scene since his starry breakout in the creative explosion of the 1960s, Julian Sklar (McKellen) has drifted into a cluttered, self imposed seclusion. His two estranged children enlist Lori (Coel) a young painter, and sometime forger, to pose as a prospective assistant and gain access to a fabled series of unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in his studio, in a deceptive bid to secure an inheritance for themselves.

This week is your very last chance to see the heartwarming British comedy, Mother’s Pride at the Hall! 🍺 We’ve brought it back for two final screenings (including a matinee) on Wednesday 13th after many, many requests. An excellent cast, crew, storyline and soundtrack, this is not to be missed on the big screen!

Also this week is Haslemere Musical Society’s May concert, conducted by James Ross. An interesting mix of works with an English theme and links to folklore, this is an incredible opportunity to see a symphony orchestra and chorus in your local theatre!

You can buy your tickets for both online via the link in our bio, or by calling the box office on weekday mornings. Please support your local arts venue 🤍
