David Lean Cinema

David Lean Cinema The David Lean Cinema, Croydon Clocktower This is a non-political campaign for all who want to see the David Lean Cinema open.

From March 1995 to April 2011, it offered the best of British and World cinema, as well as classic re-releases and recent favourites. It was closed as part of major arts-related cuts by Croydon Council. From December 2011 to January 2014, the Campaign screened around 70 films in the Spread Eagle and other Croydon venues, which enabled us to build up our support base and mailing list. Eventually, we were invited by the Council to start presenting films in the David Lean Cinema. We began on 27 March 2014 and we now present around 12 films a month, staffed by our volunteer team of over 70. Early in 2015, we became a Community Interest Company. Our long-term goal remains to see the David Lean operating as fully-functioning cinema with screenings on at least six days a week.

You may have noticed something different about us this week. We've undergone a bit of a change, updating our logo and colour scheme, and launching a brand-new website. You will start to see this new look appearing across our cinema, our posters, our brochure and our social channels over the coming weeks. This means that it will be easier for more people to see what's on, discover films and book. It doesn't change who we are, what we do, or even what we represent; it simply establishes a new visual identity that helps us stand out, encouraging film fans to explore new stories with us, and inviting new audiences to experience the magic of cinema.

Want to know a little more about what's changed and why? Read the story on our new website: www.davidleancinema.org.uk/a-new-look-for-our-cinema/

For over 12 years, our cinema has been kept alive by people who care about film and about Croydon. Thousands of volunteer hours and countless screenings

HALLOWEEN at the David Lean Cinema, Croydon Clocktower, will be extra special this year due to our Hammer double bill, which brings Dracula to the cinema for the first time!

DRACULA (12A, 1958) is a classic of British cinema, and we're showing Terence Fisher's long lost uncut version, never before seen in UK cinemas. There's also a 10 minute short about the restoration.
DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS (15, 1966) is the superb sequel, and we're screening, in association with The Cinema Museum, a 35mm Technicolor 'scope print that enables you to experience exactly how the film looked in cinema 60 years ago.

SPECIAL OFFER: Save £2 if you book both films at the same time.

You'll find a spine-chilling atmosphere in the Arts Bar, and Hammer connoisseur Adrian Wi******er will be your horror host.

Thanks to Culture Croydon for support that enables this rare Saturday evening opening.
