Our Story

THE BEST OF THE FIRST!

The Cyprus International Film Festival (CYIFF) is holder of the EFFE Label. The EFFE Label is Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals showing their engagement in the field of the arts, community involvement and international openness. CYIFF takes place annually under the umbrella of the Cultural International Festivals network. Our goal is to be the best European Film Festival for first shown filmmakers. The festival is a non profit organization inaugurated on March 23, 2006 by the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Pefkios Georgiades. Since then, we have demonstrated our commitment to professionally organizing this event annually despite many obstacles.

The Cyprus International Film Festival(CYIFF) takes place annually, since 2006, on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The Cyprus International Film Festival is the biggest of artistic high value cinema event of the whole region, spilling over Cyprus' boundaries and spreading over the whole region with repercussions reaching worldwide. CΥIFF is the first internationally oriented film festival which offers new and upcoming directors in multiple sectors of entertainment (such as feature films, short films, animations, music videos, dance films and video art) the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of a jury of internationally acclaimed cinema experts, directors and actors. CYIFF has a competitive section. Films produced the last 36 months, by emerging directors are selected for the screening program. CYIFF promotes both Cypriot film directors and Cypriots artists living abroad through the film category "Nostimon Himar" and awarded Cypriot Film Directors, as well as Cyprus as a new film oriented travel destination. The festival and the parallel events create an important meeting place for Cypriots and foreign filmmakers. The 'CΥIFF - Cyprus International FilmFestival' is the brainchild of a group of dedicated volunteer individuals, event organizers, film producers, cinema experts, multimedia and audio visual specialists.

"The Best of the 1st!" Cyprus International Film Festival's mission is to support the first shown filmmakers with their first short or feature film, to meet and exchange cultures for the further development of Cinematographic Art in Cyprus, to promote our historical and cultural heritage,to upgrade our tourism product and to internationally promote our alumni participants.

16TH CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL GOLDEN APHRODITE AWARDS CEREMONY
The Cyprus International Film Festival is awarded with the EFFE Label which is Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals showing their engagement in the field of the arts, community involvement and international openness.
This year the Cyprus International Film Festival was invited to participate in the 2nd Larnaca Biennale and we hosted the inauguration event of the Women in Film and Television in Cyprus WIFT CY. This highlighted the seven day Festival in Nicosia and Larnaca. .
Petra Terzi, the Festival's director said: “I would like to thank the Festival team who worked relentlessly last week to make this festival happen in two cities in Cyprus. I would like to thank the Festival sponsors, the Municipality of Larnaca, the National Machinery for Women's Rights (NMWR), the K-Cineplex Nicosia Prime for the public screenings, The Classic Hotel for their hospitality, all jury members and all the participants either with their film, their script or just their visit at the Festival activities and screenings at the cinema in Nicosia and at the Municipal Theatre at the Biennale Larnaca. I wish that we all meet together again with the filmmakers who couldn't join us this year at the 17th Cyprus International Festival in person, healthy and inspired”.
