Cinema Politica is a media arts, non-profit network of community and campus locals that screen independent political film and video by Canadian and international artists throughout Canada and abroad. Cinema Politica's biggest and longest running local was founded at Concordia University, Montreal in 2004 and ever since it attracts between 300 and 600 people to its weekly screenings. Each semester

programming is focused around themes that touch on social justice, environmental and human right, Indigenous rights, Migrant Justice, LGBTQ and trans issues and racial justice, and all screenings aim to bridge political independent filmmaking, local activism and civic education and engagement.

This award-winning film takes us to the front lines of the historic blockade on Pacheedaht territory, where land defenders mobilized to protect old-growth forests. As the struggle over old-growth logging in the Walbran Valley continues, this story remains as urgent as ever.

The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with director Jen Muranetz, moderated by Nicolas Renaud, Program Director of First Peoples Studies at Concordia.

Through personal photographs, archival footage, and the voices of four trans women, this documentary uncovers four decades of trans life in Beirut. A moving tribute to community, friendship, and chosen family amid loss and survival.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Eli Tareq El Bechelany-Lynch, a q***r Arab writer whose work engages questions of identity, embodiment, and transphobia, moderated by Lebanese artist and co-founder Philippe Manasseh.
