STARTING THIS WEEK: The only feature film shot in Palestine in the last two years tells the personal stories behind the 1936-1939 Arab revolt against British colonial rule. This sweeping historical epic from award-winning director Annemarie Jacir (Wajib) was Palestine’s official Oscar entry.

Set against the 1936-1939 Arab revolt against British rule in Palestine – the longest anti-colonial uprising in the history of the British Empire – Annemarie Jacir’s award-winning drama brings an oft-forgotten chapter vividly to life. A strong ensemble cast, including Jeremy Irons (Dead Ringers), Hiam Abbass (Succession) and Saleh Bakri (All That’s Left of You), come together in an interweaving story that captures the Palestinian resistance against the increasingly severe and imposing force of the British. Shot in Palestine and Jordan under extremely challenging circumstances, this is a film of potent, complex contemporary resonance.

STARTING THIS WEEK: Olivia Wilde, Cooper Hoffman and Charli XCX star in Gregg Araki’s enjoyably outrageous, risqué sex-comedy, set in the Los Angeles contemporary art scene that flirts with obsession, power, betrayal and murder.

Boyish, bushy-tailed Elliot (Hoffman) can’t believe his luck when he’s hired as the new assistant to provocative, successful contemporary artist Erika Tracy (Wilde). Magnetic, powerful and supremely seductive, Erika soon enlists the eager-to-please Elliot as her sexual muse. In way over his head and firmly under Erika’s spell, Elliot must somehow also maintain his relationship with girlfriend Minerva (Charli XCX) and his best friend and housemate Apple (Chase Sui Wonders). A sly, darkly funny take on contemporary sexuality from New Q***r Cinema legend Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin, The Doom Generation), I Want Your S*x is a welcome reminder of his singular, subversive voice.

STARTING THIS THURSDAY: From critically acclaimed director Adam Shankman (Hairspray), comes the hilarious q***r comedy, STOP! THAT! TRAIN! an outrageous adventure of two best-friends and their train ride of absurdity.

Best friends Tess (Ginger Minj) and DeeDee (Jujubee) are train stewardesses who trade their dreary shifts on Stank Rail for the glitzy Glamazonian Express. When a catastrophic “Stormaganza” threatens to derail the high-speed train and crash it into Florida, the duo must join forces with the snobby first-class attendants and President Gagwell (RuPaul) to save the day in this wild ride of camp and comedy.

Featuring an all-star cast alongside RuPaul, Ginger Minj and Jujubee, including cameos from Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matt Rogers and Raven-Symone, STOP! THAT! TRAIN! is a camp spectacle that celebrates drag with a delightfully absurd sense of humour and a healthy dose of RuPaul’s signature wit.
