kattasche is a small, leather artisan studio nestled between the steep rainforest walls of the Illawarra escarpment and the Pacific Ocean on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I offer a bespoke service for leather goods as well as a small range of beautifully handcrafted bags and accessories. My designs are minimal, timeless and showcase the raw beauty of Australian vegetable tanned cow, kangaroo and toad leather. I originally trained as a costume maker and theatre designer and I have worked on a wide range of projects in performance, film and the visual arts over the last 20 years in Australia and overseas. I fell in love with leather when I had the opportunity to make very elaborate leather costume pieces in costume departments on feature films. kattasche was opened as a manifestation of my passion for leather as a unique and ancient working material and as a fresh and ethical take on traditional leather offerings. My theatre background instilled a strong passion for collaborative storytelling and kattasche pieces are created to become part of your tale. kattasche encourages an expression of individuality and is also my way of infusing the colours and textures of the stunning landscape around my studio into busy urban lifestyles. kattasche is a slow fashion brand and I am aiming to encourage my customers to invest in long-lasting, trend-free and locally produced pieces, rather than buying short-lived fast fashion products. Every product is made especially for you, regardless of whether you decide to order from the range, or if you would like to discuss a bespoke piece.
