Hey everyone! It has been a while since our last update, and there is a lot to share!
While it has been more difficult and taken longer than expected to find all the manufacturing partners capable of meeting our strict quality requirements and tight specifications, we are pleased to announce that productionization of the Nexus G1 is progressing exceptionally well.
The Nexus G1 has almost 200 unique parts, most of which are custom designed, and require over 20 unique manufacturing techniques to be produced. Every process must be tightly controlled to achieve the consistency and quality required for the Nexus G1.
Due to this complexity, we have not only had to design the Nexus G1, but we have also had to develop sophisticated highly optimized internal systems for engineering documentation, quality control, inventory management, and other areas, to make this possible without hiring 100 people. Many of the parts have gone through multiple iterations of samples, manufacturing improvements and design refinements to reach the standard of excellence we require for the Nexus G1.
Longer term testing was also conducted on the Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation coating used on the magnesium alloy parts, and determined that while the coating has exceptional corrosion and wear resistance, due to the extremely hard ceramic structure it is prone to micro-chipping when hit with hard objects. While this is probably acceptable since you shouldnโt be throwing rocks at your Nexus ๐, we decided to switch to a hybrid, multilayer Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation and polymer coating, for maximum chip resistance, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance.
We apologise for the delay and the gaps between updates. Our team has been working seven days a week, remaining completely focused on production, to get the Nexus shipped as soon as possible while delivering the features and quality we promised, and more.
Between manufacturing samples and testing we have continued to develop many software features we had planned from the beginning, but chose not to announce until proven.

We are extremely excited to announce CINAF - Cinematic, Intelligent, Natural Autofocus.
CINAF is a sophisticated sensor-fusion autofocus system designed specifically for cinematography. It combines machine vision, high-density matrix LiDAR, inertial sensing, calibrated lens data and real-time optical refinement to understand the subject, its physical distance, the movement of the Nexus G1 and exactly where focus needs to be.
Unlike conventional image-based autofocus, CINAF can understand real physical distance, maintain focus when a subject leaves the frame and continue operating in total darkness. This allows it to deliver deliberate, predictable and naturally cinematic focus transitions, together with intelligent, highly refined and easy-to-use continuous subject tracking, all seamlessly integrated into the Nexus G1.
And CINAF can autofocus absolutely any lens!
Every lens attached to Nexus, whether electronic or manual, is automatically identified. Attach a modern electronic lens, a vintage photographic lens or a fully manual cinema lens, and Nexus automatically applies the correct lens profile and controls focus through either the lensโs internal motor or an external FIZ motor.
From a Helios 44-2 or Sony G Master to a Panavision Ultra Vista, attach the lens, and CINAF just works.
With 76,800 focus points and advanced sensor fusion, CINAF can track and switch between up to five faces, follow a custom object within a selected region, or maintain focus on any region chosen by the user. It gives solo filmmakers and small teams sophisticated focus control when no professional focus puller is available, while still integrating seamlessly into professional focus-pulling workflows.
And this is only the beginning. We will continue advancing CINAF through improved focus algorithms and creative controls, with the goal of pioneering the next generation of autofocus for filmmakers, combining effortless operation, deliberate and expressive focus movement, and universal lens compatibility in a system purpose-built for cinematography.

We are also extremely excited to announce that the Nexus U-Mount will now be included with every Nexus G1 as standard!
Some of you may already know about U-Mount from our discussion with Nino on the CineD Podcast (Focus Check EP95).
U-Mount is the more advanced and universal evolution of our original AutoLock system. With one-click operation, automatic positive locking and push-button release, it allows you to change between different lens-mount systems quickly, securely and without tools.
Using interchangeable lens mount modules, the Nexus G1 can switch between EF, E, MFT, L, PL and many other lens ecosystems with just a click, giving filmmakers the freedom to use modern electronic lenses, vintage photographic lenses, cinema glass and anamorphic optics on the same Nexus G1.
U-Mount was originally planned as an optional system, but it has become such an important part of Nexus that we believe it should be included with every Nexus G1.
Combined with CINAF, U-Mount creates an incredibly flexible lens platform with integrated cinematic subject-tracking autofocus, and FIZ control across an enormous range of electronic and all fully manual lenses.

Production components are continuing through manufacturing, finishing and validation as the Nexus G1 enters the final stretch of production integration. The latest production components, refinements and software are being incorporated into the Nexus G1, bringing every aspect of the hardware and software together for final validation.
The Nexus G1 has taken longer to bring to production than we originally anticipated, but the result has grown into something far more capable, refined and ambitious than what we originally promised. After years of engineering, development and relentless refinement, we are incredibly excited to be closing in on the final production Nexus G1.
